Signed Social Networking
Would you tolerate 1 extra step in your Social apps , if it guaranteed no fake bots ?
What if relatively soon apps and web services will be flooded by millions, or billions, or even trillions of AI agents. Think fake twitter bots, ratings farms, comments farms, etc ?
This may be dangerous and would raise the risk of mis information by orders of magnitude.
Assuming that this is the direction of where we are headed based on the progress of LLM's , Transformers, Gen AI and other new "agents" , it is a good idea to think about how we could differentiate between actual human posts and human actions online and synthetic ones.
So what if we had Signed Social Networking ? In order to post a facebook message, or instagram comment, or an X post you would need to provide a biometric scan at the time of posting.
This would increase accountability and responsibility for each post , comment , like, heart, down vote action that we take online.
But it would also serve as a way to filter , block, or sort online posts and actions based on if their origin is human based versus ai based.
If i was working on Threads or X or Facebook or Insta or TikTok i would look at updating my apps to integrate with mobile OS keychains (Apple keychain, chrome keychain, etc) to require a keychain Auth for every action. In practice this means when people press "Post" or "Comment" or "Submit" there would be 1 more step:
scan your fingerprint, face ID, Pin or Pattern.
